Looking For Roustabout Vacancies?

These are the companies you need to apply to.

Roustabout vacancies are not often advertised. Instead, oil industry (drilling, exploration contractor) companies use employment agencies. You need to make sure your CV is with these companies and agencies.

You can also apply to companies that employ Roustabouts.

Not all oil industry companies employ Roustabouts. Finding those that do from the many hundreds of oil industry companies that don't is hard without our website. For example, did you know that BP do NOT employ Roustabouts. Transocean on the other hand do employ Roustabouts.

The companies on our website employ Roustabouts or are employment agencies that regularly have Roustabout vacancies, even if they do not always display them on their website.

If you are looking for a job board displaying lots of open Roustabout positions, you will not find it.

Remember, the oil industry does things differently. If you want a Roustabout job you are just going to have to send your CV off to all the companies and agencies that employ Roustabouts. See our Resource list (top left).

Be persistant. Keep sending in your CV. That way, they will know you are keen. Your CV then has a better chance of landing on the desk on a day when the employment department can not find someone to fill a position.

Finally, getting to know the industry will greatly help your chances of finding work. This is why some people get jobs and others who are just as capable do not. It is a fickle business and can be frustrating for those who know they are good enough but just can not get that first break. How are you going to get to know the industry? Get this book. and read this site regularly.

See our oil industry jobs page. Unlikely to be any roustabout vacancies. If you think that is odd, please read this page again.

Trying to get on offshore rigs, all replies say require experience, how do you get experience when no one will give you a start
Our reply:-

Some companies have a policy of not taking on new starts (green-hands), others do not have that policy.

Remember all the tens of thousands of people currently working in the industry at one time had no experience. Don't give up, they did it and so can you.

If you are looking for a roustabout job, apply to the companies on our resource list.

Well get me a job then
Our reply:-
No, get off your backside and get your own job! Some people expect everything on a silver platter. If you don't make an effort, you have no chance.

Looking to work offshore as a, Safety Equipment Technician, or as a Roustabout.

I have spoken to numerous agencies, about working offshore and assured me that with my Military experience and training, companies would be pulling my arm off due to my experience?

I had a phone call the other day from a company that where looking for a safety and survival equipment technician offshore.
So I said I would be very interested, the “gentleman said he would get back to

The next day I got a phone call saying the company said you’re absolutely perfect and you’re just what were looking for.
“But” you haven’t worked on an Installation, which I replied I’ve spent plenty of time offshore on aircraft carriers and commando ships they said “no” it’s for health and safety reasons you need to have worked on an installation. So How do I get offshore for a job if no one will give me the time of day to get offshore, but I’m told to complete my Greenhand course and my BOSIET to meet the requirements which I have but still nothing. Where I’m I going wrong?

Should you have any advice for me that would be fantastic!!! Or a job or work experience (for free of course) would be a great help.

I completed the RGIT course and passed relevant medicals in August 2009. Since then I have been actively seeking a position as a Roustabout, or any other position to gain entry, all to no avail. I have experience in the heavy engineering industry and feel that I possess the key qualities and personal attributes to succeed in this industry, but dont have a trade. I have registered with countless numbers of oil/gas agencies with not a single return.Just dont know where to go from here.
Our reply:-

Your best bet is applying directly to the companies that employ roustabouts. Don't apply once and forget about it, pick a few companies, then send in your application every week. They will get to know you. If you get told to stop, pick another company.

Gary Larkin, UK.
